What is Applied Kinesiology?

Functional Neurology. Chiropractic is based on the understanding and manipulation of an individuals neurology. Applied Kinesiology is used in the diagnostic and treatment phase to help accurately and efficiently correct the source of their pain.

Functional assessment measures are used in posture, gait analysis, manual muscle testing, range of motion, static palpation, and motion analysis. These measures used along with standard methods of clinical history, physical exam findings, and orthopedic testing help to develop a clinical impression of the unique physiological condition of each patient. All of these measures are used to make an impression of the patient’s functional physiological status. This can then be used as a guide to the application of conservative therapies.

What is an Activator?

The Activator is an adjustment tool that allows Dr. Phillips to perform a high velocity, low amplitude adjustment in a way that has remarkable consistency because of the decades of engineering that went into its design. Each adjustment is feels gentle and uses a pre-determined amount of force that has been demonstrated through research to be extremely effective in treating almost every single joint and muscle in the body.

There is also a whole protocol that goes along with the Activator that allows the doctor to determine exactly what is causing a patient’s complaint. Doctors that utilize the Activator Protocol and leg checks can give extremely specific treatment to their patients.

If you wish to try one of the most gentle and specific forms of chiropractic, this is a great method to improve your quality of life.

What is Muscle Testing?

Muscle testing is used as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a patient’s body is functioning. When properly applied, the outcome will determine the best form of therapy for the patient.

When a muscle is sore, painful, or simply tests weak, the doctor must then determine why it is not functioning properly. This can be from poor function or injury in the muscle, or from the surrounding musculature. The therapy that will best eliminate the weakness and help the patient is then performed by the doctor. Therapies utilized can include specific joint manipulations or mobilizations, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, and reflex procedures.  By applying the appropriate therapy, the muscle tests strong, the postural distortion can improve, and there will be pain relief.

What Are Our Therapeutic Goals?

  1. To restore a patient’s postural balance, correct gait impairment, and improve range of motion – This relieves pain!
  2. To restore the proper neurological control and/or muscular organization of body function – This relieves pain!
  3. To achieve homeostasis of endocrine, immune, digestive, and other visceral functions – This relieves pain!
  4. To intervene earlier in degenerative processes to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease.

Ultimately, to work with our patients, to help prevent premature biological aging by working to maintain their functional capabilities, and reduce the cumulative affects of day to day stresses on their body.

Who Do We Treat?

We treat people, not symptoms!
There are plenty of conditions that we could list here to catch your attention, but the truth of that matter is that any condition that the body develops, given the right circumstances and enough time, can be reversed or at least controlled. The body wants to be healthy, and so it is our job to work with our patients to find the source of whatever it is that is preventing them from enjoying life at the moment, and work with them to reverse the process. Life is too short not to enjoy it, become proactive in how you feel.

How many visits will it take?

This answer varies on a case-by-case basis. It depends on the severity of the problem, how long you have experienced that problem, and any other patient-specific factors. While most patients experience great relief after a single treatment, it is common that it may make a few treatments to fully solve a problem and prevent it from coming back.

Our goal however is to get each patient in a place where they do not feel the need to come in frequently. In other words, we want you to give the help you need to spend your time living your life and not spending your days in doctor appointments. We greatly enjoy seeing our patients, but we enjoy knowing that you are living the fullest life you can more!
